Friends of Frog Tree Farm and Frog Tree Farm had a busy summer filled with events, activities, and exciting improvements to our farm infrastructure. It was truly one of our most impactful summers yet! Through our Summer Community of Practice, middle and high school students stepped outside the classroom and into nature. They learned hands-on agriculture skills—planting, harvesting, and exploring sustainable food systems—while also reflecting on identity, culture, and belonging. Along the way, they built practical skills, discovered new connections, and were supported by caring mentors.
We also expanded our impact by hosting leadership retreats for professionals and family retreats, giving participants the opportunity to recharge, reconnect with the land, and share meaningful experiences together. Youth also had the chance to visit inspiring community partners like Green Island, Balsam Moon, and Batcher Block, where they witnessed firsthand the amazing work happening across Minnesota.
This summer also brought investments in our infrastructure, thanks to generous donations. These contributions supported new sleeping spaces, improved trails, and enhanced meeting and gathering areas—all designed to make our farm a more welcoming place for students, families, and community groups.
None of this would have been possible without our strong partnerships. Our work is deeply rooted in collaboration, and we are grateful to organizations like Affirmation House, Be the Best Foundation, The DeCoster Family, Hennepin County Safe Communities, MN Africans United, MAELC, MN Black Farmers Association, MN Dept. of Agriculture Urban Ag Program, North Hennepin Community College’s Brother 2 Brother Program, Northwest Suburban Integration School District, Onyx Collective, Three Rivers Park District, U of M Central Regional Sustainable Development Partnership, and USDA SARE. Together, we are building opportunities, creating connections, and shaping a brighter future for the next generation.
We believe that sustainable farming practices are essential for the health of our planet and our customers. That's why we use natural fertilizers, crop rotation, and other sustainable practices to grow our produce.
We are proud to be a part of the local community and support local initiatives. We work with local schools to provide educational programs and donate a portion of our profits to local charities and organizations.
